Each year, Angela and Craig host a fundraiser in Carter’s honor and choose two organizations to benefit. This year, the beneficiaries were chosen for their involvement in both the preemie community and the loss community. We are proud to be partnering with Graham’s Foundation and the Zoe Rose Memorial Foundation.

Richard & Keira Sorrells understand – because they’ve been there too. The foundation was started in honor of their triplet, Zoe, who passed away before her second birthday due to lasting complications of her prematurity. They know that life as a parent of a preemie is unlike any other and only those who have experienced it can truly understand the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. The Zoe Rose Memorial Foundation exists to help parents feel informed and empowered during an experience that often leaves them feeling the opposite.

Graham’s Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 by Jennifer and Nick Hall in memory of their son, Graham. Jennifer and Nick understand the joys and heartaches that come with prematurity –their son, Graham, and daughter, Reece, were born at 25 weeks gestation. Graham was with them for just 45 days, while Reece spent four long months in the NICU before coming home. It was these experiences that inspired Jennifer and Nick to begin helping other moms and dads by creating Graham’s Foundation. Its mission is to offer both practical and emotional support to parents of premature babies. The foundation supports the parents by providing care packages during their journey in the NICU and transition home and the foundation’s website provides a place for parents to share their stories and find support.

In addition to fulfilling on each of their own missions, these two organizations work closely together to provide deeper long lasting support to parents that have had to say good bye to their babies far too soon. Loss is something the founders of both Zoe Rose and Graham’s Foundation know all too well, so it is important for them to provide something special for other parents that need help and support.

If a parent has suffered a loss, they can order a Remembrance Care Package from Graham’s Foundation that provides useful information for the healing process and also an inscribed memento to help parents remember their baby every day. To provide further support, these names are then included in a special Zoe Rose event called Rainbow of Roses. Each year on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, Zoe Rose hosts a remembrance event in which a candle is lit and child’s name read out loud for every child’s name given to them.  By these two organizations coming together, parents can remember their children every day with a special memento and then specially honored in an event that provides understanding and support to parents as they share stories and memories of their babies.

Graham’s Foundation and Zoe Rose are doing amazing things for the prematurity and loss communities. It is also great to see them come together to provide a unique and special experience particularly for parents that have suffered a loss. We here at Celebrate Carter, also knowing and understanding prematurity and loss, are happy to help support these two organizations. We thank you for learning more about these great missions and hope you will support them as well.
